Wagner Lipnharski's at the pulpit again! If it's anything like this country (and I see no reason otherwise), the problem seems to be the police are setting up the speed traps on the high-quality, ultra-safe roads, and on the safest sections where excess speed least matters, particularly where drivers finally get a break to overtake the knuckle-dragging specimen they've been following for miles (US element there). There would be somewhat more respect for them if they'd come down heavy on the hoons in the suburbs, the centre-hugging snails, the one-eyed night creatures and the didgeridoo exhausts (.AU element there). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of my favourite stories is about an intersection near my home. It is a "T"-junction which had a "Give Way" Sign (unnecessary given current regulations) on the side road which has incidentally, a short hill just before/ at the junction. One night, a young driver was driving(?) an apparently stolen vehicle down this side road to the junction. Presumably ignorant of the nature of the junction (presumably because he was not licensed), he crested the hill, went straight across the junction, *through* the 16" wooden power pole opposite and into a resident's garage (via the side wall). He was presumably going a little fast. Absurdly, he was minimally injured. Don't recall if he was caught actually. The council apparently felt the need to improve safety at the junction, so they changed the sign to a "Stop" sign and put a "Stop sign ahead" sign before the hill. -- Cheers, Paul B.
