OK, thanks everyone for your feedback, it endorsed what I had found, takes a little explaining doesn't it? It really means I must reverse pins 1 and 2 relative positions on my IDC .1" header artwork, if I wish to connect a PCB via a flat ribbon cable to a crimp .6" socket header.
