Myke Predko's web site has a good explanation of the Hitachi interface and source code and explanations for a two wire interface to the LCD. Even if you don't want to use the 2 wire interface, the rest of the information is worthwhile. I am using an older version of his code and a three wire interface to the LCD (utilizing a shift register) and it has been working well for several months. Having an LCD display is VERY helpful for debugging purposes.
