Check out www.logicalsys.com.

They sell DIP to SO-Plug adapters (along with other programming and
prototyping adapters).  You get SO plugs and an adapter (either machined pin
or ZIF).  Simply solder the SO plug onto the board, and then attach the DIP
socket to it.  I think I paid around $50 for the 20 pin SOIC to DIP adapter
(with ZIF socket) with 6 plugs.
