As a rule of thumb, SOIC (SO) packages are usually larger than TSOP (TSSOP) (SSOP) The "T" stands for Thin, Both are hard to prototype with as they are. First Digikey sells a SMT Universal SOIC ZIF test socket for SOIC devices. I just looked and it is $151.94 (Kaf Kaf...) Digikey PN 44-547-11 (Page 123) BUT!! Digikey sells a DIP adapter for the different pin count SOIC devices. Page 123. They range from $6.00 to $10.00 and then you can use a simple socket to prototype with. While your there pick up some solder wick and a soldering iron with a really small tip :-P Digikey 1-800-344-4539 NOTE: SOIC = Small Outline IC TSOP = Thin Small Outline Package TSSOP = Thin Small Shrink Outline Package - Really darn small ! >I plan on prototyping with some Atmel DataFlash parts this summer. They >only come in SOIC and TSOP packages. Which is easier to socket for >prototyping? > >BAJ >
