The vast majority of PICs need a CAN interface chip amd I think they are coming out with or already have a high-end PIC with built in CAN. The latest selector quide has lists the new MCP2510 CAN interface chip haven't seen any pricing or availabilty yet. We use the PIC16C66 with an Intel 82527 in our CAN232 product.
