I'm using the 12 bit  AD7948 by Analog Devices. It has an 8 bits data
parallel interface and needs 4 control signals (they can be reduced to 3 by
selecting the automatic transfer mode). It is quite fast: I'm controlling
three Voice Coil DC servo motor with a  sampling rate of about 20 microsec
via the PC standard parallel port. I think you could incresase the rate up
to 100kHz. You can find it easily at Radio Shack, part no. 193-9296 for
less than 10$.
