The '$' operator is listed in 'Arithmetic Operators and Precedence' table (5.3), near the bottom. The following page lists the 'high' and 'low' operators one often sees used in conjunction with $. The document number I'm quoting from is DS33014D - the last letter is the revision level of the document. I just looked on a couple of CDROM - both the June 97 and Jan 99 CDs have a newer version (F) - the table is now 6.3.
