Below is a post from Gerhard that illustrates *exactly* why [OT] threads should be permitted on the list. Some of them are very valuable! I have been using computers since before the 8080 days, and didn't know how about selecting with or without the leading zero to choose oem or ansi. I gained one more bit of useful info from this one [OT], and I'll bet that many others did also.
