There are no set rules, but if you stick to the 
following, you will find more people are willing 
to help you :

1) Never use HTML in your email.
2) Never attach anything.
3) Try to use a relevant subject line for the topic.
4) If you post off-topic mail, use [OT] anywhere in the subject line.
5) Try not to quote too much - just enough so the thread is apparent.
6) Ignore "Get rich quickly", or "Virus Warning" postings
7) Capital letters constitute "shouting", so go easy on them.

Seeing as you didn't violate any of the netiquette guidelines, 
you are already on the right path.
