You didn't say anything about having a pullup or pulldown resistor on the
switch input.  If the switch is just a single pole, single throw one,
when it is open the PIC input is floating.  The floating input picks up
noise which gets worse as you get close to the circuit.

If your switch is from Vdd to the input, connect a resistor (10K or so)
from the input to ground to be sure the input stays low while the switch
is open.
