If there are no restrictions, such as: all-discrete, build only with
transistors, build only with tubes, build primitive (foxhole radio),
etc., you might consider the ZN414 or ZN416, which is an AM radio-on-a
-chip (with a few outboard components). There are newer chips of a
similar design, I can't recall what they are. Very simple.
