Hello,
I am new to the list and in a
vertical learning curve at this point. I realize it will take time to
become proficient with Microcontrollers but I am eager to get on with
it.
I would like to know if anyone has interfaced into an
automobile's data link system on 1996 or later models.
The EPA required auto manufacturers to
install OBD II (On Board Diagnostic version 2) on '96 and later vehicles, on the
OBD I systems (pre'96) if the computer activated the check engine lamp you could
get the trouble code with basic test equipment ( Voltmeter for Ford, Shorting
key for GM ) however OBD II requires tapping into the datalink connector wnd
communicating with the PCM (Power Control Module).
My Check Engine Lamp came on and the
dealer charged me $60 to plug into the Data Link Connector and readout the
trouble code, it took about 5 -10 minutes tops.
If anyone has any info I would
appreciate you sharing it.
Thanks, Paul
