Yes, I believe rosin core will do fine.

This is referring to the LCD glass itself.  You will need to supply the
+5VDC to the module.

Without having a grounded iron, you'll have to use the tools at hand.  I
don't think you'll have a problem, though, unless the room humidity is 30%
or anything like that.

If the connector is 2x7, solder a male header into place, and crimp a 2x7
IDC connector onto the ribbon cable.

You might also have a look at our EDE702 LCD Interface IC datasheet; It
will walk you through the entire connection of the LCD and use only one I/O
pin.
