Actually, only 4 wires are used.Ê A typical utp cat ethernet cable has twisted pairs on pins 1&2, 3&6, 4&5, and 7&8.Ê 10BaseT and 10oBaseTX only use pairs 1&2 and 3&6. Ê David V.
