Which design?  There are variations.  Some designs have a AC to DC
converter which can take DC as input as well as AC.  Show me the design
and I'll be able to tell.

Maybe.  Sounds odd.  Is that with or without the parallel port attached?

Any of them.  No, it doesn't really matter.

The signals used by the programmer are within the smallest subset of
functionality of those three choices.
