Try a new pic17c44 with v1.5 inside the picstart+, mine is finally running ok on win98 Also you will need to read the picstart + readme notes if using pic16c73/4 (not the A versions) as VPP rise time is too fast, I have finally soldered in a .1uF capacitor, (pins 1 and 8) the recommended .01uF was too small and stuffed my burn/debug/erase cycle just as badly as no cap at all. there is a "new"(5 months) spec for VPP level, this needs to be changed also. regards, Graham Daniel
