Hi Richard, Green surface is "solder resist", printing is "overlay" there's not much point in applying solder resist for non production PCBs as solder resist is applied to control solder application areas in wave or dip soldering. If you are hand soldering and get too much solder on the PCB then here are the techniques that I use: Apply a little extra solder to refresh the flux in the problem area. Invert (turn upside down) the PCB and drop the solder down onto the soldering iron. The key is not to lose the flux, or overheat the PCB.
