I have used toner transfer paper with good results.
I create an design, laser print it to the gel paper,
transfer the toner to clean copper clad using an iron
(or a pressure roller)
soak the copper clad/paper sandwich until the gel dissolves
wash and etch  two sided boards have been done by me.
I have cut gel paper into smaller pieces and run it through the
laser (use straight path) taped to another piece of paper.

MAKE SURE IT IS GEL BASED
