Are the adapters passive devices (wire to wire adapter) or do they have some type of active switching in them; say a transistor or demultiplexer to switch signals to the extra pins (which I don't think are used during programming anyway.) If it is straight wire to wire, paying attention to different pin number/function arrangements, it seems like it would be easy to wire up your own for a lot less.
