I think you may be on the wrong list really Don.

I suggest you try it on another system. The fact that it programs blind
menas that the hardware of the programmer is working, you just need a
bi-directional port to verify and read.

The dt001 (PICmicro programmer) doesn't need a bi-directional port, so
it should function fine on any uni or bi-directional printer port.
