Analog Devices provides two accelerometers models,
 - ADXL50 can measure accelerations up to 50 G
 - ADXL05 can measure accelerations up to 5 G

they are low cost, and easy to use (search on Analog Web site...)
and it possible to buy them in Europe (France for example)
