The older 2-wire are heated by the exhaust manifold and output a DC voltage that equals 0.6vdc when gases are optimal (14:1). The 3-wire use internal heating element (12vdc), used in turbo-charged and also in many newer cars, don't have to be mounted on the manifold. Output also 0.6v. Range from 0v (air) to 0.9v (rich).
