XTREE (Gold) is *still* one of the most powerful PC management tools. Its viewer lets you byte-edit files of any length (in HEX mode only), but you can't change file lengths anyway. If I *do* vary the length of a file in editing, I make a point of deleting the corresponding index (SNM) file before pointing Netscape back to the file, just in case. I'm not sure if it's essential, but I haven't had any blunders. The one blunder I *did* have, was last weekend and trashed my whole Inbox. This was however due to running out of disk space; I had *only* allocated 548Mb to my Internet partition. Anyone to whom I should have replied last weekend, that's why I haven't (contained months of un- answered messages, about 4Mb)! -- Cheers, Paul B.
