I'm looking for info on implementing a parallel to serial conversion with a PIC. It needs to go along up to about 100m of twisted pair, so I'm planning to use RS-422 or 485 (bidirectional link on one pair would be ideal), with basically a standard PC parallel port at the other end. (If anyone is interested, the idea is to connect a PC on the surface to a Texas Instruments DSK up to 100m underwater for some underwater acoustic comms trials) Has anyone implemented something like this on a PIC? Using the UART even? I'm up to speed on PICs but haven't needed to do serial comms before on them.
