>That is actually an interesting question, my estimate on the current sales >by all parties for Serial LCD's is 20K units annually based on my past >sales and what others have published. The potential is much higher though. I believe that the number is higher, Ben. We have been having a good deal of success with EDE702, also a low-cost device for OEM. Scott Edwards moves quite a few, and I have spoken with several former customers of his who were using his unit, even in production. For those who don't know, these devices allow a liquid-crystal display to be connected to a system without the I/O burden (6 to 11 pins) or the code overhead. They are interfaced serially to the microcontroller using a one-wire link, (for those interested, the EDE702 even replaces the one pin of I/O it takes up with the addition of a serially controller output pin), allowing designers to potentially use a smaller microcontroller in production (less I/O pins & memory) as well as take away the timing burden of controlling the LCD screen and speed the project to market. For instance, our EDE702 IC is priced at $4.50 in 1K quantities, so is cost effective for many applications (client purchases his own screen). I hope this doesn't sound too much like an add, but I thought the original question called for some data. Ê Todd Peterson Ê E-Lab Digital Engineering, Inc.
