Hi Miguel,

I think building a modem yourself with chipset will be too complex.
you have to order may parts deside the chipset. Yes, US ROBOTICS
is too expensive! why don't try the one made by some small company.
Last month I bought a NETSTAR 33.6K with CVSD made in China,
which is about 70 US$ here, if only 14.4K is also OK for you, the
price will be down to 30US$, but not so easy to find.
