I consistently get within 2% using 12C508's and the internal osc.

It's 24VDC, so will have to be dropped down. A regulator would be nice to
ensure timing consistency. Not absolutely essential, though.

No question - the F84's an overkill, although programmers are readily
available for them. If you can program a '508, it's all you need.
