I use a Cyclades Cyclom Y 8 port board.. It's the cadallac of multi port serial boards so it's immensely expensive but it does all the processing on it's own so the computer doesn't need to do anything to support the board except yank the data.. I paid $199.00 back in 1992 for it, I chose cyclades for it's speed and the fact that it's a processing daughterboard instead of a unit that requires processor time to do the same job. But I have used the 4 port cheapies from Jameco and they work fine you just cant 155K out of all 4 ports at once with them.. (I get 115K on all 8 ports continous on the cyclades) NOTE: So far only Cyclades ships with Linux drivers, most other companies say "Linux who?". check em out at www.cyclades.com.
