Back again with this sad tale - I checked the serial cable already and it functions ok - in fact, by jumpering pins 2&3 on the end of the cable that is yanked out of the Ps+, I can type characters on the keyboard and have them come out on the screen. So, the serial port is enabled and workign properly. There is no IRDa port on this lame laptop that I have - the NEC Versa 550D - in fact, there's not much hard drive space left either - it's only 500 meg. I did notice that sometimes when I unplug and re-plug the DC power jack on the PS+, I get a character or two of "crap" on the screen in Hyperterminal - it's not repeatable and not the same even when it happens. Typeing characters and hitting return etc, causes nothing.
