Digikey carries an optrex 8X2 PN:73-1106-ND $9.88 each.
Or a Varitronix 8X1 PN153-1026-ND $28.70.

Optrex also make parts that aren't in the mainstream catalogs.  We use a 10X4
that is only 4mm thick including a backlight.  It was designed for the Cell
phone makers.  A little hard to get but not impossible!
