Does anyone make a SMALL, smart, LCD display?  Something like 4 to 8
characters in 1x0.5x0.375 inches (or maybe 1x1x.25?)  Obviously, you can do
this with with a LCDdriver containing PIC and some bare LCDs, but I don't
want to mess with LCDdriver software, surface mount technology (to get that
many pins in that little space) or connecting things to glass with exotic
connectors.  I want (hypothetically, anyway) something that I can connect
to Gnd, +5, and a single output pin (like the bigger smart lcd displays.)

I guess this is essentially an LCD (low power) equivilent of the small
multi-character smart LED displays made by several vendors...
