I have an PICStart Plus Rev.5 with firmware 1.20.00. The alternate driver didn«t solve the problem on all machines. On my desktop system it worked well, but not on my notebook. With the new MPLab v3.40.09 there comes a new firmware (PSF1500.hex). You«ll need a new 17C44, as the PicStart Plus has an OTP version in it :-( With this new firmware it works very well now.
