Hi folks, As there are on this list regularly discussions of items which are not exactly PIC related but of "general" interest I hope there are some people on this list which might have had the same problem regarding the supply current of the transceiver-device. I'm looking for a really fault tolerant CAN transceiver for 24V (!) systems. For example the Philips's PCA82C251 seems to be quite suitable except its high power supply current. As I read in the datasheet it might be as high as 85mA (max. @ CAN-Bus dominat). As I would prefer using a linear regulator this might cause tremendous high power dissipation of the voltage regulator! Due to the fact that our application should be able to communicate even with one bus line continuesly shortened it would be more convenient for me using a CAN transceiver for 24V systems with lower max. power consumption. Maybe anyone know whether there is a more intelligent device available with reduced power dissipation in case of bus shorts? Any hint will be appreciated highly!
