Lewis,
I myself have used the PICstart Plus to do ICSP many times. I built a home made
connector, one end goes to a 40 pin IC socket while the other end goes to a 5 pi
n connector. Just make sure you isolate the rest of the circuit before you progr
am the device.

Is the PICstart Plus programmer suitable for programming devices in-circuit
with a hand-built adapter/cable for the device being programmed?  I seem to
recall that some of the "home brew" programmers that I read about on the
web, did not have the current capability to do this due to the length of
the inconnection cable / capacitance etc.
