Doug, They look good to me to ! Maybe the distributors are trying to clear all old stock before an anouncement is made. (as if Microchip would let that happen anyway) I'd love to have the 16F716 for a current project, I could encapsulate whole PCB and still do a quick field upgrade. The new core looks interesting also, (bigger PC for more memory, more directly addressable registers. Personally, I think Microchips greatest weakness to date is in interrupt support, remember the Zilog Z80 ? I believe that most microcontroler applications only require high speed in bursts, usually for rapid response to hardware requirements not catered for by on board dedicated pheripherals. I guess that this is where Scenix and Atmel are providing stiff competition at the moment. regards, Graham Daniel.
