        I just bought that programmer.  Actually, I just start do pic.

Advantage:  much cheaper than picstart plus
        you can still mplab from microchip

disadvantage:  use parallel port.  I don't have any parallel port left,
but I have 2 serial port left.  so I am going to buy a switch box.
        doesn't program 17c series.  don't know if it can be upgraded in
the future.
        when you use mplab from microchip, you can use everything except
that you cannot download your hex file to your programmer because you are
using a different port than picstart plus.  so you have to use the program
itu provides to download the hex file to the chip.
