I for one vote AGAINST moving to a newsgroup. I do most of my PICLIST'ing from the office, where I have email and web access, but no newsgroup access. If you want a mail reader that handles threads, get Agent from Forte Inc. Just my 0.02 dollars worth - Martin R. Author: pic microcontroller discussion list at Internet Date: 5/1/98 10:59 AM Hi all, Is anybody besides me frustrated that this group communicates with a mailing list and not a newsgroup? It would be much easier to follow the threads if this were a newsgroup. I think that mailing lists can be "gatewayed" to newsgroups by people with sufficiently large clues. Has anybody done this on a publicly available news server? Does anybody know how? Barring that, what about migrating the discussion to a new newsgroup. Ideas: alt.microcontrollers.pic Following the pattern of alt.microcontrollers.8bit (or maybe we should start alt.microcontrollers.14bit :-). The advantage of alt is that the newsgroup will propagate to all servers that carry alt.* as soon as it is created. comp.sys.pic Following the pattern of comp.sys.m6809, comp.sys.m68k, but, I think, comp.* newsgroups must be voted on, which is a pain. Is there any fundamental reason to stick with the mailing list format, since this discussion is unmoderated? Does anybody have email service but no news service? Does anybody see any advantage to the mailing list format over usenet?
