I have two application notes off the Microchip CD.  AN554 - "software
implementation of I2C Bus Master",  and AN578  "use of the SSP module in I2C
multi-master environment".

What's the best method (given I only want single master operation)?

Reading previous messages on I2C, some people suggested that the app notes
were seriously flawed - which ones and how?
