BTW, I'm electronic >engineer with signal processing MSc degree, so don't get worried about being >too complex! SGS-Thomson has just announced a 2-chip GPS chipset which integrates almost all of a GPS receiver. For a home-brew system, I'm sure it would be far cheaper and easier to buy a commercial unit, maybe modifying it for your needs - you can get GPSs for about UKP100 retail & I doubt you could build a 1-off for anything close to that, certainly the actual low-level positioning software is very complex, and I doubt it could be done without access to a GPS simulator (or mobile workshop?!) If you want to customise & build-in GPS to some other system, I think OEM GPS modules are about UKP100-150 in low volumes. I'm sure home-brewing a GPS would be very interesting & challenging but why re-invent the wheel? ____ ____ _/ L_/ Mike Harrison / White Wing Logic / wwl@netcomuk.co.uk _/ L_/ _/ W_/ Hardware & Software design / PCB Design / Consultancy _/ W_/ /_W_/ Industrial / Computer Peripherals / Hazardous Area /_W_/
