Recently, I've been developing a product using the 12C671. I've got half-a-dozen prototypes in the field being evaluated and was just about (this week) to order the first production run of PCBs and PICs. Then I receive a call today from my rep who reports that there is a problem in the factory with the 12C671 and they aren't going to produce any until May, June, July time frame. A factory rumor reports "end of the year". This is not a good omen. He claims Uchip will give/sell engineering parts, with waivers. Does anyone know what these "waivers" usually consist of (reduced specs I imagine). Does anyone have any more reliable info on the release date of the 12C671 or what the problem acutally is? (I ordered samples last May). The 12C671 was really nice for this application because it had the ADC, internal oscillator, and 8 pins. Is there another PIC alternative, perhaps with a larger package but with equivalent functionality (only need two output pins, one ADC input). Also, I only need about 5 bits of ADC resolution. 500 usec conversion time is adequate. And finally, is there another uP from another vendor with equiv. functionality/package? -- ----------------------------------------------- b r a d l e y b a k e r n4ocb@earthlink.net
