OK here is what I want to do. Take an LCD (typically 2 by 16 characters, but 2 by 40 as an option would be nice.) and marry a PIC to it. Instead of providing a serial interface to display characters immediately (there are many of those, such as the Wirz SLI and the serial interface from Scott Edwards) have it accept serial data and store it to provide a repeating message on the display. Sort of like those scrolling LED displays. I imagine a 16C84 might work well if it can self-program. Does anyone make such a beast. Any suggestions?
