Bad connections, missing components, bad components etc. But also computer may cause problems. One had the same problem, and it was because of computer. Try to messure the voltage across C1 to verify if it is about 13V. If it is too low, then add a 18V battery (2x9V) across C1 with a 150 ohm resistor to see if it is better. If it works, then your comport is weak. It may be an idea to cut off the ground to RS232 pin 7, and instead add a 47uF capacitor between Vss (on chip) and RS232 ground, with - to Vss and + to ground. I like to know if it works better, because I have no computer that has the problem. If noone tells that it actualy is better, then I won't correct it. Regards, Jens Dyekjaer Madsen
