I respectfully submit that the recurrent references to a J-K flip-flop are at best misguided, and at worst nonsensical. The type required for this application is in fact an R-S flip-flop, consisting of two NAND or NOR gates. The circuit is colloquially referred to as a "Kitt Scanner" for reasons which *should* be self-evident, and has (hint!) been published in various incarnations (not all worthy of looking at!) in quite a number of hobby magazines over the years. Call it "research". Cheers, Paul B.
