Eudora (maybe Pro version only) gives good filtering - I can set it to limit messages to any size, usually I leave it at 4kb. Later, when only the first 4kb has been downloaded I can decide whether I want the lot or not. It also has good filtering on any header content. I did decide to download it all to see what it was - it then stitched all the individual parts back together automatically and created the zip file. Agent (which I only use for Usenet) has good filtering too in it's email functionality I believe.
