For all we know, someone could be designing a PIC into the next Tamaguchi and swallow all of Microchips capacity for 12 months. Of all the micro devices, the vanilla 8051 is one of the few that is less likely to suffer that problem because so many people make it. Otherwise, you pays your money, you takes your chances.
