Hi there all, Im a fresh PIC pgmer and have a question for you all

In my project I will be recieving MSF transmissions on one pin in
digital format and I am now writing code to respond to this by
generating an interupt every 10 ms....no problem, however I realized
that the code cant be stepped thru and verified because I dont have
an actual input at all so this is where our ICE would come in handy
but I havnt built the cct to provide the input! therefore I will need
to use some sort of  stimulus file. Ive looked throught the help in
the MPLAB window for that and cant seem to tell the difference
between all the different kind of ones they have ie, the register ,
pin,clock and asynchronous stimulus. so which one will I need and how
can I provide it?
