Self-adhesive backed touch sensitive keypads (in a matrix config.) are
available in avariety of sizes, e.g. 4x4. the connections are via a
flexible-circuit connector.  The keys are easily labelled with a printed
paper insert.   Although they do not offer full-travel keys, they have
a lot of advantages for small-volume and proto work.   Low cost, easy
to install, no large cutout needed in panel (just a slot for the conns.)
and they are splashproof.
