I have used them in a couple of designs.  The ones I used were charged to
about 3.3V in a 5V system.  I used a resistor divider to produce produce a
bit over 3.3 V. A diode from the voltage divider charges the super cap.  By
selecting proper values of resistors in the divider, you can limit the
charge current to whatever value you want.
