I'm not sure how much this will help, but....

1/3 = 1/2 - 1/4 + 1/8 - 1/16 + 1/32 - 1/64 + 1/128 .... etc.

Since all the divisions can be done with simple shifts, there should be a
reasonable method in here, somewhere...
